Guest Column from Joe Connolly - Rev. Dylan Crawley

A few months back Cindy and I were surprised to receive a short message from Dylan Crawley (SA '14), asking where we were going to be on May 21. After a few more messages back and forth Dylan invited us to Lubbock, Texas to join his family and attend his ordination as a Transitional Deacon.

We recalled the Senior's last day in May 2014 when Dylan made the announcement that his college plan was to attend Conception Seminary that Fall. The ovation from his classmates and the audience was deafening!

Dylan had worked with Cindy and the SA kitchen staff as a student helper during Middle and High School at SA. After Cindy and I retired from Saint Albert Catholic in 2016 we worked at Catholic Youth Camp - and - Dylan worked with us as one of the Summer Staff for CYC in 2017.

Dylan has been a seminarian with the Lubbock Diocese for five years. Ordination to Transitional Deacon occurs one year before ordination to the Priesthood - so - this is a big step for Dylan.

We made our way to Lubbock Texas and spent the weekend. Here are some highlights:

After arriving in Lubbock, we had lunch Friday with Dylan and his family. And because we were in Texas we had BBQ. From the right:

Ali (Dylan's mom), Luke (Dylan's dad), Andrew (Dylan's brother), Fr Seth Lorenz from the Lubbock Diocese, Mathew (Dylan's brother), Dylan and Cindy.

Ordination was Saturday at Christ the King Cathedral in Lubbock. His Excellency Bishop Robert Coerver presided.

Here is Dylan laying prostrate before the altar as the Litany of Saints is prayed.

Following the prayers of ordination, Dylan is vested with a stole and chasuble. He is assisted by Deacon Simmons and Fr Seth with Dylan's parents in the foreground.

This summer he will work as a hospital chaplain in Lubbock. In the fall he will return to Mundelein Seminary in Chicago for his last year of studies. If all goes well his ordination is scheduled for June 3, 2023.

The Crawley family is a treasure for Saint Albert Catholic. They have great dedication to Catholic education with five children going through Saint Albert while living a half hour way in Glenwood. In addition, Ali worked for many years at Holy Rosary Parish in Glenwood and Luke has served on the SA School Board.

Here is the Crawley crew:

In front: Ali, Deacon Dylan (SA '14), Brittnee (SA' 11).

In back: Luke, Andrew (SA Junior). Mathew (SA Sophomore).

Dylan's brother Gregory (SA '18) was unable to attend as he was away Serving his Country in the National Guard.

On Sunday morning Deacon Dylan ministered at the 9:00 Mass at the Christ the King Cathedral.

Here he is proclaiming the Gospel. He followed with a Homily reminding us that God is on our side.

It was a great honor to be included with Deacon Dylan's family for this celebration.

It was also great for the second weekend in a row to connect with SA Alums.
