CARROLL - St. Albert finished third at the Kuemper Catholic prep baseball tournament this weekend.

The Falcons defeated the hosts 8-3 after beating Carroll 5-3 and losing to Spencer 6-3.

"That was our best ball of the year," said St. Albert coach Ken Schreiber about meeting three schools with larger enrollments. "We played our best defense (two errors in three games) against some good teams."

John Madsen got the win in the third-place game against Kuemper. He gave up only two earned runs and did not walk a batter.

Catcher Ben Whelan doubled home two runs, Allen Caniglia had a RBI double, Jake Brown scored twice and Doug Moran singled home a run.

Moran was the winning pitcher against Carroll. He struck out eight and shut out Carroll the final four innings.

Spencer strung St. Albert with a five-run fourth.

Bales was 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Patrick Fetter tripled home a run and Moran had a RBI single.
