The St. Albert family is saddened by the loss of Val Kennebeck who passed away this week.  Val was a St. Albert Mom & Grandma and was very active in her Catholic faith.  Please keep the entire Durham, Beck and Kennebeck families in your prayers at this time and please say a special prayer today for the repose of Val's soul...

Vlasta Marie Dostal Kennebeck
Val Kennebeck

Vlasta Marie Dostal Kennebeck, age 88, Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away September 25, 2017, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.

Born in Howells, Neb. on September 18, 1929, to the late James L. and Tillie Semerad Dostal, Val attended country school and passed her entrance test into high school at the age of 12. She graduated high school at age 16 and taught school before spending the next 34 years at the Army Corps of Engineers. Vlasta was united in marriage to Linus Kennebeck
in 1974 and attended St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha. Val was an active member in her church, volunteering in the parish office and singing in the choir, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Orpheum Theatre and was an avid bowler and golfer.

Vlasta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Linus in 1979; brother, James Eugene Dostal in 1996; sister, Marlene Dostal Marshall in 2016;and grandson, Grant Durham.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Durham of Council Bluffs, Sharon (Romie) Beck of Anthem, Arizona; son, Joseph (Deb) Kennebeck of Council Bluffs; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Kubat of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Alice Virgl of Wahoo, Neb.; brother, Ronald (Barbara) Dostal of Howells, Neb.; sister, Bonnie Hubers of Highland, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

Services: Visitation Sunday, October 1st from 2-4pm at Cutler-O'Neill Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs with the recitation of the Rosary at 4pm.  Mass of Christian burial on Monday, October 2nd at 11:15am at St. Cecelia's Cathedral at 701 N. 40th Street in Omaha, NE.  A luncheon will immediately follow Mass at the Cathedral's hall.  Interment at St. Mary's Country Cemetery near Howells, NE at 3:30pm.

Memorials: St. Albert Schools, St. Cecilia's Grade School in Omaha or a Mass at your local church in Vlasta's honor.
