OMAHA - St. Albert celebrated senior night by defeating Tri-Center 4-0 in girls soccer at Creighton's Morrison Stadium Monday night.

St. Albert (7-5) got all of its scoring in the first half. Senior Gina Assmann scored a hat trick with three goals.

Assmann scored only two minutes into the game on an assist from Mollee Collins. Assmann then scored off a header from a corner kick to give the Saintes a 2-0 lead.

Just four minutes later, Becca Meade made a cross pass and Jessika Karl put the ball in the net from her left forward position.

"Karl has really played well in recent games," said St. Albert coach Randy Salyers. "Her improved play has helped us tremendously."

Assmann closed out the scoring in the game with an unassisted goal that was a cross far from the net.

Defensively, Salyers gave credit to Mollee Collins, Marissa Finn and Allison Mooney for shutting down the Trojan offense. Meghan Crowley and Catlin Cool shared keeper duties in posting the shutout.

Saintes senior Aileen Mooney, injured Saturday with a contusion running from above her knee to the ankle, was introduced as a starter with the other seniors.

The ball was intentionally kicked out of bounds so the injured Sainte could leave the field. Her younger sister, sophomore Allison Mooney, took her place in the line-up.

St. Albert plays its next game against city rival Abraham Lincoln next Monday at the C.B. Stadium Soccer Complex.

If it wasn't for bad luck, the the St. Albert boys squad would have had no luck at all in their tilt vs. the Trojans as they fell 2-1 at Creighton.

Despite a complete dominance of attack zone, total shots, scoring opportunities and overall play, the Falcons could still only muster one tally, a nifty drop shot off the left wing from Jr. Graham Whye late in the 1st half.

Numerous missed shots in both the 1st - but especially the 2nd - half came back to haunt the Falcons, while Tri-Center was able to capitalize on two of their unofficial three total shots on goal, both coming lateer in the 2nd half.

It certainly was a difficult ending to Senior night but it was also a beautiful evening at a beautiful soccer complex. Thanks to Dana Kruse and a slew of volunteers for making the event a great one!
