Narmi Notes: Mt. Michael's gym - Unbelievable!

If you didn't make the trip out to Elkhorn Mt. Michael on Thursday night, you missed a treat. Yes the Falcons got beat, but going to Archbishop Bergan gym on the campus of Mt. Michael is something that every fan of high school basketball should do at least once in their life. It is truly like taking a step back in time. I felt like I had walked into a scene from Hoosiers!
1st of all - Mt. Michael is an all-boys boarding school out in the middle of nowhere. I was waiting for Sean Astin from Toy Soldiers to show up at any minute. The students are rowdy and into the game.
2nd of all - There are about 4 rows of bleachers on each side of the court with a few bleachers on the sides of the baseline. Did I mention that EVERYONE in the 1st row has their feet INBOUNDS??? I thought I was going to get a free toy inside this crackerjack box.
Finally - The team is good, the fans are great, and the gym is fantastic. Everybody is right on top of each other so it gets loud, and I mean LOUD! I wonder what the St. Albert gym would be like if the students all squashed themselves into the last section of bleachers???
I would have to agree with the Omaha World Herald that "The Bird Cage" at Creighton Prep is the best high school environment to see a game, but Mt. Michael is not far behind, + you get to take a step back in time!
