For St. Albert students, it’s about giving

Every year, St. Albert Catholic School students provide gifts for the less fortunate in the Council Bluffs community. Through this year’s schoolwide competition Dec. 2-9, the seventh- and eighth-graders and the ninth- through 12th-grade students worked to raise the most money. The winning classes get to buy the presents to be given to others.

St. Albert campus minister Brenda Moran said the competition has been an annual tradition at St. Albert for at least 18 years, and community service programs are part of the student culture.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Moran said, “The kids feel good about this.”

“We talk about the economy, but it will hit home with them when you tell them, ‘This might be the only gift someone gets,’” said Moran.
