A.L. finds it offense, trim Saintes...

Abraham Lincoln offset some foul trouble with one of its best offensive showings of the year in a 61-47 win over intra-city rival St. Albert in a girls basketball game at the A.L. Fieldhouse.

The Lynx struggled with foul woes the entire game, leading to St. Albert scoring more than half of its points from the foul line and two A.L. starters fouling out.

"St. Albert played real physical, and that kind of got us off-tempo," A.L. coach Chuck May said. "The thing I wasn't happy with was that a lot of our fouls were reaching fouls, and they were unnecessary."

On the other end of the court, however, the Lynx got the job done, recording their second-highest point total of the season.

Sarah Glanz led the way with a career-high 16 points, including scoring A.L.'s first six of the game. Brittany Ridenour and Stacie Brazeal also broke into double digits with 10 points apiece, and Laura Sales finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

"I was real happy offensively with how we moved the ball around," May said. "And for the most part we took care of the ball too."

Janay Campin added eight points off the bench for the Lynx, including a pair of key 3-pointers in the first half. She drained a trey at the end of the first quarter to stretch a one-point lead out to four.

"Janay hit a couple of big buckets for us," May said. "She kept us going when we had to sit some girls (due to foul trouble)."

Leading by 11 (34-23) at the half, the Lynx began to pull away in the third quarter, and a Sarah Milner 3-pointer less than three minutes into the second half pushed the advantage to 18. Later in the frame, a Brazeal rebound and put-back made it a 20-point lead at 51-31.

"I thought in the second half we weren't as aggressive as we were (in the first)," St. Albert coach Tom Heithoff said. "We were getting some shots on offense at least, but we had some breakdowns.

"Right now, our biggest problem is consistency ... both on offense and defense."

The Saintes had some success early getting the ball inside to Aileen Mooney, who finished with a team-high 14 points to go with nine rebounds.

Gina Assmann, who spent a lot of time on the bench with foul trouble, managed to score nine points and Krista Kennebeck led the Saintes on defense, swiping three steals to go with her seven points.

"I can't say enough about Gina, Aileen and Kennebeck," Heithoff said. "Those three have been real consistent for us."

Sophomore Amy Ryan added a solid game for St. Albert with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Abraham Lincoln is back at home Saturday against Class 4A No. 2 Sioux City North, while St. Albert takes a nine-day break before a road game against Omaha Duchesne.
