Narmi Notes: Random Thoughts...

Well it's Master's week. That's right, one of the best television events of the year. The place is beautiful and timeless. I think God created it on the 7th day instead of taking a break like He said. This year I'll take Ernie Els. Last year the 'Big Easy' came close in the big ones, but couldn't get it done. This year I think he flies under the radar and picks up the win. I'll take Sergio Garcia for 2nd and Tiger Woods for 3rd. It ought to be something to watch. Did I mention there are only 4 minutes of commercials for every hour?

Commercials? Could they have gotten any more commercials in during the NCAA Finals?? Did you see how many 3's Illinois took? 40. Ridiculous. The NCAA has got to move the line back a least a foot, if not all the way back to the NBA line. I still think the Illni would have won if they took a shot inside the Arch.

Saw the 1st half of the SA boys soccer season opener. Good group of players this year. A little bit of nerves and some prolonged dribbling to start the year, but this will be a solid team. A lot of upper-classmen will get this team some wins if they can find a consistent scorer. If the Falcons hope to get their 2nd State Team Title, this could be the year.

I see there is not an Official Boys Tennis team again this year at SA. As a guy who grew up playing parks and rec. tennis during the summer, I find it sad. Tennis is a lifelong sport for those who enjoy playing. Hopefully future generations will regain the interest.

I hope you made it to an Iowa Western basketball game this year. If not, you missed out. I was shocked to see how good they really were. I have little doubt they would have beaten Nebraska.

Speaking of Nebraska, I see in the press that Callahan is going to simplify things for next year. A 600 play offense would be burdensome for Joe Montana, let alone Joe Dailey. He also said the Huskers would play more zone defense. Welcome news if you are a Husker fan. Look at Iowa, they play so simple, but yet, it is so effective. Get athletic, tough kids and put them in the right spot and let them go make plays.

CBS sportsline has Iowa playing USC in the Championship game next year. Yes, that Iowa. Granted, my beloved Hawks are 1 of only 3 teams to finish in the Top 10 the last 3 years, but championship game? I guess coming from St. Albert, I'd rather be the underdog. Let's just hope Hawkeye fans have plenty of reason to do the Hokey-Pokey in the fall.

The new MLB testing policy must be working. Somebody got nailed the 1st day in the majors and so did 30 minor leaguers. It's about time. The only thing is, the tests don't look for andro., which is about the same thing as a steroid. These guys should personally apologize to some of the old-timers for breaking all their records. Records are especially sacred in baseball and they have been destroyed the last 10 years. How 'bout an * ?

Well, I've gotta run, the Pope's funeral coverage starts Friday morning about 1am. Until next time...
