Council Bluffs St. Albert has found a familiar face to take over its football program.

The school announced Friday that Jim Duggan will replace Adam Kuhl and take a second tour of duty as its head coach. Kuhl led St. Albert to a 34-3 record in his three years at the helm, including the 2004 Class 1-A state title. He recently resigned to take the head coaching job at Platteview High School in Springfield, Neb.

Kuhl was an assistant to Duggan before Duggan left St. Albert following the 2001 season. Duggan compiled a 46-8 record (.852) from 1997 to 2001 as the Falcons' co-coach and head coach, leading the school to the playoffs all five years.

"We're very happy that Jim was available at the time," St. Albert Activities Director Ken Schreiber said. "He loves St. Albert dearly, and obviously that's a big plus."

Duggan is a 1980 graduate of St. Albert. He was a standout quarterback for the Falcons and then a two-year starter at the University of South Dakota.

Duggan resigned in 2001 to accept an assistant coaching job at USD. He later spent one year as head coach at Dyersville Beckman in eastern Iowa and two years as the offensive coordinator at Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.

"The St. Albert football program has a long and proud tradition of excellence, and I am very pleased to be back in the head coaching position," Duggan said.

Schreiber said Duggan is a great communicator.
