The Saint Albert Falcons have named Duncan Patterson as the head baseball coach. Patterson has most recently been serving as the assistant varsity coach under Jeremy Petry, who resigned as head coach earlier this fall.

Duncan Patterson brings a variety of experience to the head coaching position with various levels of playing and coaching. Patterson himself was a four-year collegiate player at Peru State College as well as seven years of semi-professional baseball. As a coach, he has served as an American Legion, and Omaha Youth Travel Select teams in addition to Saint Albert PAL coaching.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the Saint Albert High School baseball program. I am eager to

transition the program and build on the foundation left by Coach Petry, “said Patterson. “I plan to bring Saint Albert an aggressive style of baseball that combines speed and power offensively, with solid fundamental defense. This will produce a good brand of baseball and it will be exciting to watch. I will develop a depth of pitchers, focusing on precise location, a smart game approach, and doing the ‘little things’ right.”

Effort and attitude is going to be the main focus for the Falcons’ upcoming season. Patterson wants each player to approach their time on the field with energy and enthusiasm.

“The game will be most enjoyable for them when I’m able to spark their desire to compete and work hard on baseball fundamentals,” according to Patterson.

“Sometimes players can get complacent and just go through the motion which in turn dictates their attitude. When the players buy into my offensive and defensive philosophies, they will have fun and be proactive in the outcome of the game and will successfully reach their goals.”

Patterson is looking forward to continuing the tradition of Saint Albert athletics as well as community, by passing along knowledge and passion for the game of baseball. Patterson’s quote for the season is from Bob Feller,

“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is.”

The Falcons’ baseball season opens in late spring of 2017.
