RAGBRAI Day 0 ReportPosted: 07/23/2016 - by Charlie NarmiI'm no MadStatter but we did make the trip down to Glenwood Saturday night (in the motorized sled of course) with a couple of the kids to see what all the fuss was about and we were rather amazed at what we saw... People, bikes, tents, RV's, food and beer. Tons of all mentioned! I've lived my RAGBRAI experience vicariously through The Statter's columns on this site over the years (and will continue to do so) but here's a small sampling of pics - I'll leave the poetry to Mr. Madsen... Driving into Glenwood Saturday night - this was the last cell service you could get until you left town because of the overload of devices... East side of town: The new high school is on your right - youth ballfields on your left. Tents and more tents all over town... Lots of RV's and team buses as well... Not into hauling your own tent all week? Hire this company and they have you set-up when you arrive at the next town... Shower in a trailer? Yep... All set - time to get to town to get down (The band Lemon Fresh Day was great)... Is it tough finding your bike or tent in the dark after a few beverages? Saturday night was still blazing hot - people finding shade anywhere they could... Not only do they have any kind of food, you can find just about anything from the vendor's in case you lost, forgot or broke something... It looked like Christmas in July for many local establishments. Might have even seen some SA folks come and go from a few spots... And it was great to see some Falcons flying around town working the week for RAGBRAI: Rodrigo Barajas, Tony Lincoln, Augie Kouri and Jackson Dunning. ~Charlie, Melissa, Kathryn & Jack Narmi~ -ARCHIVES- |
