Helen WestphalThe St. Albert family is saddened by the loss of St. Albert grandmother, Helen Westphal who passed away this week at the age of 98.  Helen is the mother of Memory Mescher and many of her grandchildren are graduates. Please say a prayer for Helen's soul and please keep the entire Westphal family in your prayers at this time.

Eternal rest grant unto Helen o' Lord: And let perpetual light shine upon her.

Helen Westphal

Helen M. (Frenken) Westphal, age 98, passed away February 7, 2016, in the loving care of her family.

Helen was born January 10, 1918, in Pocahontas, Ark. She was united in marriage to Elmer “Dutch” Westphal on November 1, 1942. Helen worked as a hairdresser and waitress, and for many years cooked for the Council Bluffs School System at Hoover, Thomas Jefferson and Kirn Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Dutch” on June 12, 2008; grandson, Nicholas Mescher; and granddaughter, Terri Lee Westphal; parents, sister, Louise Poggue; and brother, Edward Frenken.

Helen is survived by daughter, Memory Mescher and husband, Dick; sons, Fred L. Westphal and wife, Sandy and James A. Westphal, all of Council Bluffs; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren, and a grandmother to 53 foster children.

Rosary recitation Thursday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 a.m., at Corpus Christi-Holy Family Church. Luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment at a later date in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Treynor, Iowa. Family will direct memorials.
