The schools that met for the Class 3-A girls state basketball championship last year – MOC-Floyd Valley and Orange City Unity Christian – are separated by a leisurely stroll, 1.5 miles.

It is the perfect example for the lively debate that goes on several times each year in Iowa. The reason for the debate is the stark contrast in philosophies between the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association in formulating their postseason assignments and pairings.
