Charlie's Prediction Time

Posted: 10/28/2016 - by Charlie Narmi

After a bye week for the column and the team it's good to be back - this time for playoff football!

19 of 20 years we've been to the playoffs!

The Falcons had a streak of 15 straight years in the Quarterfinals... That streak ended in 2012 and the Falcons haven't been there since... A little extra motivation tonight for the Falcons!

Akron-Westfield was impressive last year in their 2nd half dismantling of the Falcons.  St. Albert was close at the half behind the ground game of Elijah Finn and crew.  The 2nd half the Falcons struggled in all aspects of the game.  It was just that simple.

A-Dubya may have lost some upfront, but they still have Cal Eskra at QB who at times can look like a combination of Brett Favre & Michael Vick.  High praise indeed but I certainly think he's worthy.  He also has his receiving core back which the little Falcon secondary may struggle with again.

Yes the Falcons are bigger and stronger but as I've written before, their mindset changed last year during the State Finalist basketball run back to their old youth mindset when they were dominant.  The mind is a very powerful thing, especially in teenagers.  Can they be like Maverick and get over the mental block of Goose dying last year on that bitterly cold Akron field?

You all know I believe the game starts and ends in the trenches and the Falcons look tough, cohesive and fast up front.  Sounds great but they haven't played 4 quarters but once in 7 weeks.  Can they play at a high enough level early and still have gas in the tank down the home stretch??

Finally, our Seniors... Small in numbers but mighty in example.  They are quiet LEADERS by EXAMPLE.  They're also a humble group that just does thing the right way - The Falcon Way.  Congratulations to all 5 of them and thank you!

Get along the fence tonight and let the Falcons know your support and enjoy another high scoring shootout on a spectacular night for playoff football...

The Falcons eventually silence A-W and their boomboxing music...
