HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Matt O'Connor's only basket in Iowa Western Community College's 69-68 win over Walters State Community College came at a critical time and thanks to teammate Kyle Prochaska's bloody jersey.

O'Connor laid in a give-and-go from Jazz Ross to tie the game at 63 with 1:27 to go. But the only reason O'Connor was in the game was because Prochaska was sent to the sideline with blood on his jersey.

"I wanted Pro (Prochaska) in there," said O'Connor. "I had no clue I was going in, but I knew what I do had to do. I wanted to make up for missing a couple of foul shots in the first half."

Once in, O'Connor sliced to the middle of the foul lane and "it was wide open and I got the ball back from Jazz and laid it in. I didn't realize I tied the score. I heard our crowd erupt and looked up at the scoreboard."

Quickly after that, the blood was off Prochaska's uniform and he was back in the game for O'Connor, but the former St. Albert star had done the job.

"I'm a sophomore," said O'Connor. "I had to step up."
