Narmi Notes: Random Thoughts

Posted: 10/10/2006 - by

Well it’s been awhile since I last wrote – so here we go…

The Falcons look poised to make the playoffs for their 10th consecutive year.  Unfortunately, the last time they didn’t make the playoffs was my Senior year when we went 8-1.  Back then they used to only take the Champion of the District and then the rest of the teams had to hope for a wild card.  Thankfully things have changed – the Falcons will take the Runner-up spot for the District, make the playoffs, and keep the streak alive! The Green & Gold will now be in the Top 7 All-Time for All Classes for consecutive playoff appearances & will have the 3rd longest current streak in the state (Madrid 17, WDM Valley 15).  Interestingly, unless a miracle takes place, Emmetsburg won’t make the playoffs for the 1st time in 24 years.  An early congratulations is in order for all the Falcons and especially all the Coaches who have helped put this current streak in place - (Marshall Scichilone left 1 year before current streak started), Ken Schrieber, Adam Kuhl, & Jim Duggan.

Coach Bladt & Coach FerentzAs you can tell I like history.  Here is something I referred to in my Notes on 11.22.05.  Curt Bladt at Harlan.  He is currently 307-31 at Harlan.  That’s a winning percentage of 92%!  He’s 10-8 in state titles games & has only lost 16 regular season games in almost 30 years.  Did I mention they have won 3 state titles in a row, 45 straight games, and the Senior Class has never lost a game? I went down and saw them play against Lewis Central.  They are very good this year but not exceptional.  I predict they get beat at Carroll this week – but if I was Carroll I’d be praying I didn’t see them in the 1st round of the playoffs – Curt Bladt has never lost a 1st round playoff game.

Dana KruseSpeaking of more great football – the little Falcons at the 8th grade level are undefeated at 6-0.  They have only been scored on ONCE this year and took the regular season crown for the 3rd consecutive year.  Dana Kruse’s 8th grades teams have now won 15 straight games & they haven’t lost a regular season game in Kruse’s 3 year tenure as they enter the playoffs this week.  You should check them out– they will play Thursday night at St. Albert at 8pm.

Angie Lantz2The Saintes Volleyball team is much better this year than in years past.  One problem though – they open with Treynor in the 1st round of Districts.  What the heck ladies – you were going to have to face them sometime – might as well knock them out right away! If you haven’t been to a match in awhile, you really should go see the ladies play, it’s truly exciting to watch & if you can’t make them live – you can see an archived match right here on stalbertsportsfan.

More great coaching – Bob Wiedman – St. Albert Cross Country.  The man has continued the dominance of St. Albert Cross Country & in traditional St. Albert Cross Country fashion, they kick butt, takes names, & have a great time.  Both teams are strong this year and should have a great shot at making the State Meet.  By the way, did you know that neither the Falcons or Saintes has a Senior on the team? When was the last time that happened???

Pretty cool that the A’s & Tigers are in the ALCS.  They are very well run franchises that have focused on good, young pitching to make them contenders year in and year out.  Yes Royals fans, small market teams can win!

The Chicago Cubs now haven’t won a World Series in 98 years.  Just to put that in perspective - the Marlins have won 2 in the last 10 years.  Also, the Marlins payroll this year was $14 million - $11 million less than Alex Rodriguez.  Coming from a Cardinals fan – maybe next year Cubbies!

Thankfully ‘Boston Legal’ started up again.  God that is a great show.  I also got into ‘Entourage’ this summer on HBO.  It’s a fresh, fun show about a guy who hit it big in Hollywood and hired his brother and his buddies to be his Entourage.

Hole17Golf season has pretty much wrapped up and I finally got a hole in one.  I couldn’t see the darn thing go in, but it was great nonetheless.  Now the bad news, golf season doesn’t start again for another 5 months - at least the wife is happy!

Alexis napping on DadAlexis at 6 monthsAlexis is now 6 months old.  She’s getting tall, rolls over, and likes to ‘talk’.  She also likes to fart, slobber, and watch sports (much like her Mother – I mean Father).

Have you volunteered or contributed to the St. Albert Campaign yet????? If not – call Mr. Brian Osborne or Jenny VanSoelen at 712-329-9000.

Finally, I can’t be too much happier right now – The Falcons & Saintes are all doing great.  The Cardinals are in the NLCS.  The Bears are 5-0, their best start since the greatest team of all-time in 1985.  The Hawkeyes are 5-1 and playing well.  The Cornhuskers are overrated, & the Cyclones are, well, still the Cyclones.  And finally, the stock market is up over 15% since I said in a piece 1 year ago the market would be much higher 1 year from now!

Until next time boys & girls!
