OAKLAND - St. Albert kept its quest towards the Class 1A playoffs alive by breezing past Riverside 36-14 in District 8 prep football action Friday night.

The win moves the Falcons to 3-1 in district play and puts them in the driver's seat for the second playoff spot in the district.

"This was a big one for us," St. Albert coach Jim Duggan said. "Going in we knew that Riverside was going to be a physical team, and we knew we had to have this one to have any chance down the road."

The Falcons got the job done on the ground in the win, rushing for 285 yards as a team while holding Riverside to 119 rushing yards.

Jeremy Schieffer led the way with 19 carries for 171 yards, including a touchdown run of 68 yards.

"We did a nice job of running the football," Duggan said. "The offensive line did its job. Chris McKenzie did a real nice job from the offensive guard spot."

Defensively, Chad Belt was in on 23 total tackles and Jeff McGruder added 18.

"We played solid defense and swarmed to the football," Duggan said. "The d-backs did a nice job of forcing some coverage sacks."
