50 Fantastic Years

Posted: 10/26/2014 - by Charlie Narmi

Thank you to all who celebrated our school’s 50th anniversary this fall. We are blessed with active alumni, hundreds of who attended some or all of the homecoming festivities earlier this month, who continue to uphold our school’s tradition of excellence.

We have also been blessed by your donations to the 2014 Hilltop Fund. Currently, the Saint Albert community has raised $25,510 in the first two weeks of our annual appeal. The first $20,000 we raised will be used for our general operating budget and to maintain our facilities. All funds over $20,000 will be used to enhance our current campus-wide safety and security system by upgrading building access protection and cameras.

Please consider giving to Saint Albert, as your gift goes to a wonderful cause: creating a safe and secure learning environment for our students to grow spiritually, morally, intellectually, and physically. Click -->here<-- to make a secure online donation.

Recently, Saint Albert and its students received two wonderful gifts for its 50th birthday: a renovation of about 20 classrooms and a large crucifix to be placed near the school’s junior and senior high school entrance. Made possible by a generous benefactor, the renovation of about 20 classrooms original to the 1964 building included new doors, new windows, new heating and cooling systems, fire sprinklers and a fresh coat of paint.

A longtime Saint Albert family, active in the Catholic community, gifted us with a second anniversary present: a crucifix, being created by Omaha sculptor Michael Montag. Montag is using structural steel for the 25-foot cross and a bronzed clay sculpture for the corpus, the body of Jesus. The corpus will be about 7 feet tall.

Join us on November 19th for our Mass and Crucifix Dedication. We will celebrate the Feast Day of our patron saint, Saint Albert the Great, and will bless our new crucifix. At 9 am, Bishop Pates will celebrate all-school Mass in the high school gymnasium and then bless the crucifix by the Jr/Sr High entrance.

We thank our generous benefactor for this amazing gift, sculptor Michael Montag for his creativity, our area priests for their support and guidance during this process, and Casey and Mariann Hilderbrand and family for their gift of the foundation and pedestal.

Our school’s new crucifix will be an ongoing symbol of the school’s past and a reminder of its religious roots. This gift provides a concrete way for the Saint Albert family to illustrate our strong spirituality to the Catholic faith.

Thank you for continuing to support our school and the strong foundation of spirituality upon which it was built. With so many exciting projects happening on our campus, I invite all of you to visit your home on The Hill whenever you are in the area, and to follow us on Facebook at St. Albert or on Twitter @SaintAlbertSchools.
