RAGBRAI Day 0 UpdatePosted: 07/19/2014 - by Charlie NarmiBefore I report on the ride, the Bluffs butchers bicycling club wants to give a shout out to all the Vogels in Arizona. Godspeed. In case you haven't noticed, we carve our own path. Instead of starting in Rock Valley with 10,000 other idiots we are making our first overnight in LeMars. How else could we make it to 5 o'clock mass at the new and beautiful St. Joseph's Parish. And since we did go to mass, I cannot tell a lie. We did find some refreshments (after). We are never far from SA action as we 're receiving tweets and text about the Falcons game with Treynor. So far so good. Let's hope this is not a jinx. Tomorrow we shuttle the bikes up to Hull, Iowa to begin riding. The 10 miles we are shaving off the front we will add to the end when we go to Spirit Lake instead of Okoboji. Along the way we will pass through scenic Sheldon, Iowa hometown of Sally Narmi. We will stop at the site where people make pilgrimage to revile Joe Narmi for spiriting away Sheldon's fairest maiden daughter. We'll put in about 75 miles with a high temp of 86. By the time the Mercury hits that number we hope to be sheltered inside an establishment. It's Okoboji after all. We will be sleeping in a house with hot and cold running water tomorrow night so pity us not. Reporting for SASF: Matt Madsen -ARCHIVES- |
