Narmi Notes: E.J. Kruse Wild Game Feed

Posted: 02/06/2005 - by

Last night I had the pleasure of once again attending the Erwin J. Kruse Wild Game Feed. The 4th annual event put on by the Knights of Columbus might have been the best feed yet. Nearly 500 people (most were sportsmen) packed the hall at Queen of Apostles to support local charities and have a good time.

What is a wild game feed? Well, it is a charity event that allows you to try all sorts of wild game that is shot or caught by local sportsmen. This year the menu included: Cajun Deer Sticks, Elk Sticks, Deer Summer Sausage, Salmon, Duck BBQ, Turkey Chili, Buffalo Stew, P.I.T. Ham, Deer Enchiladas, Elk Wellington, Pheasant, & Wild Boar. Dave Devault & Rick Kowalski were the chefs for the evening & did a fine job!

Last year the feed raised over $17,000 for local charities. This year's Oral Auction included: A fishing trip for 4, a German short hair puppy, a handmade quilt, a chocolate lab puppy, a gun safe, and a couple of pheasant hunts - to name just a few. Lynn Manhart did a nice job volunteering his auctioneering services.

If you have never been to a wild game feed, this is one event you don't want to miss next year! If you are interested in attending or volunteering next year contact Dana Kruse.

Also, Lent begins this week and so do the Fish Fry's! One place you have to go is Holy Name @ 2901 Fontenelle Blvd. in Omaha. Plan on waiting in line about an hour and a half, yes you read that right. Don't worry though, they serve you beverages in line. It is really a site to be seen.

Your local Catholic radio station - 88.9 - will be promoting the weekly Fish Fry at Queen's on March 11th. The Queen of Apostles Fish Fry, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, begin at 4:30 and are $6.50 for adults and $3.00 for kids.
