Lynx girls run from T.J. at Relays

Don Schwartz wanted to start a new trend, and the Abraham Lincoln girls track coach figured the Council Bluffs Relays was the right place to start.

Entering the event Friday afternoon at Iowa Western, the Lynx hadn’t left the C.B. Relays victorious since 2004, but the drought came to an end after their 140 team points put them nine ahead of second-place Thomas Jefferson (131).

A.L. claimed victories in five individual events and four relays. Junior Peyton Holman won the 100 (13.24) and 200 meters (27.26), and ran the anchor leg of A.L.’s winning 400 and 800 relay teams. Junior Ali Heithoff won the 800 (2:28.38) and 1,500 (5:32.58) in her first outdoor meet since her freshman year, and sophomore Emma Preston’s time of 12:30.22 in the 3,000 earned her first place.

Those individual and team performances left Schwartz smiling by the end of the evening.
