Choices

I have written about choices before but I feel that I could devote an entire year on choices.   The number of choices one makes through the course of a day is a pretty high number, according to many sources the number is somewhere around 35,000 give or take a grand here and there.   The human brain is an absolute marvelous thing.
When at any given moment, during any day, one choice can have a huge impact on many people.  That is a pretty big responsibility for each of us; don’t you think?  Of course some of us take that responsibility more seriously than others.  Some people will make choices that only benefit themselves, usually for monetary gain, or a higher social status in whatever group they are associated with.
Some of us go through life lamenting the fact that a lot of things happen to us along the way.  But when in reality it is us who interact with the things and or people around us.  If each of us wants to look at the lives we have lived it is there to seeas a compilation of the choices you have made.  No wonder we are under so much stress, that is a lot of pressure, that is why I find it best to delegate some of those decisions and choices between me and my three other personalities.
I saw a quote one time and I do not know who penned such a profound thought, I will share it with you…………“It is the big choices we make that set our direction. It is the smallest choices we make that get us to the destination.”  Now some would argue that every choice is big, and they would have a valid argument.  I lean towards the school of thought that some choices are bigger or have the potential to cause either great joy or tremendous hurt in others.  And yet another heap of pressure on us, we just have too many choices.  Some studies estimate that your average house cat has around a thousand choices to make during each day, which is why I want to be reincarnated as one of my wife’s pets.
Moving away from the personnel choices that we each make and into the realm of what to do about other people’s choices that impact your life, we are not left helpless, there are things that each of us can do to make the best of any situation.  Of course the two that come to mind is that we can either accept things for the way they are ……or take responsibility to change them.  And last but not least……….. Another person’s choices are nothing more than alternatives for you.
