Thanks, Rosemary. Too bad you don't exist, and therefore haven't written such a complimentary note. Yes, I had to make up an email this week, because nobody sent one in.

And it hurts.

Right here. (pointing to heart, wiping renegade tear, and telling self 'you gotta be strong!')

***sniffle***sniffle***

Don't do this to me again, ye people who peruse CBSportsfan.com, I know you have thoughts, send them to me, they'll appear in the next Kraynak's Corner...and all will be right in the world.

They Don't Exactly Run Like Deer...

Because nobody on the Lewis Central girls basketball team has four legs, but they sure don't have a problem moving the ball up and down the court. One observer of CB athletics told me the Titans "play kinda rough". True, but not in an illegal, dirty way. And there is a difference. Its not a team like that takes cheapshots at the opposition, but if there's a scramble for the ball and you happen to be in an LC player's way, you might get run over.

The Titans aren't simply a band of brutes though, they can also score. They've knocked off their first four opponents by an average of 36 points. Their "d" gives up just 34 points a game. That is sheer domination. Yes its early, but clearly the Titans are the team to beat in Southwest Iowa.

Speaking of Deer

An article in the paper today says its a slow start to the deer-hunting season. Apparently, there's just not as many hunters in the field. I think I know why. All the deer in the area are laying dead next to the interstate. Trucks have been teeing off on them for months now, and there's simply not enough Bambis walking around to hunt in the first place.

Anyone? Bueller?

I'm curious as to why very few people from Council Bluffs attend Iowa Western basketball games. Granted, I'm an employee at IWCC and do play-by-play for the men's team, so I'm a bit biased, but I'm surprised by the lack of support from the community. Anyone care to shed some light?

The men's team is 14-1, ranked fifth in the nation and has 8-10 legitimate D-1 players on the roster.

The women's team is ranked 18th and has the #1 JUCO guard in the country (Cherelle George) according to All-Star Girls Report.

These teams can play, the Kanesville Arena is a quality facility and admission is cheap, so why so few butts in the stands?

Quick Slants

-Word is the Iowa Blackhawks will play a 5-game home schedule this next season. You may recall the fledgling indoor football franchise played just one game at the MAC back in May.

-Bowl season starts Tuesday. The New Orleans Bowl, held in (you guessed it) New Orleans. North Texas and Southern Miss. What a thrilling matchup, almost as intriguing as Toledo-UConn and Northern Illinois-Troy.

-Some "suit" at Notre Dame shaved her head to protest the firing of Tyrone Willingham. Its not a good look. Ladies, don't do it.
