After a Brief Hiatus... (bluffssports@hotmail.com)

I'm back and ready to roll. There was no column last week because I was participating in a "Save-the-Whales" campaign. Why? Because I like fish, and I care. My brethren and I are were concerned about the vanished whale population in our nation's river system. After an exhaustive search of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, we were unable to track down any whales, so we gave up, and have resumed our respective careers.

A Belated "Props to y'all"

....Saint Albert, that is. State champs in football. What a ridiculously entertaining game. The only touchdown came out of a formation the Falcons haven't shown all year, 4 wide receivers out of the shotgun to run the option with Brandon Fischer. Genius. The goal-line stand to preserve the game? Remarkable.

Its not like Saint Albert is loaded with Division 1 or even Division 2 talent. Maybe a handful of guys off that roster will play at the next level. The Falcons were all about team and toughness. There wasn't a single liability on the whole squad.

To a man, each Falcon played bigger than they really were. Fischer? Dude weighs about a buck-sixty. Belt? Not exactly what you'd consider stocky. Baumert? Same deal. The Falcons didn't pass the eyeball test. They didn't look like they were capable of being state champs. But they knew they could be, and for that Coach Kuhl and crew should be commended.

This Just in, Steroids are BAD

So don't take them. Big shock, Jason Giambi is on steroids. Really? Is that why his eyes are yellow? Barry Bonds on 'roids too? Seriously? Is that why the present day Barry Bonds makes early 90s Bonds look like his 10 year old son?

But not all of major league baseball is on the "juice". I'm pretty sure Randy Johnson isn't stacking. I'm doubting that Pedro Martinez is either.

Anyways, its a short column, gotta run, have just been summoned to Lincoln by 1620 the Zone (ESPN Radio in Omaha) to cover the resignation of longtime Husker assistant Turner Gill. You heard it here first.
