Des Moines Roosevelt and Boys Town dominated the St. Albert wrestling tournament Saturday. Roosevelt outdistanced Boys Town 243-231 to claim the team championship.

Kuemper Catholic finished fourth, followed by Thomas Jefferson and St. Albert for fifth and sixth place in the 12 team tourney.

Kuemper claimed two champions with Luke Borkowski at 189 and Scott Venner at 215.

Thomas Jefferson coach August Manz was pleased with his team's performance. "We had several varsity wrestlers out due to disciplinary reasons and only wrestled with nine guys," said Manz. "The kids really stepped up to get fifth place in the tournament."

The top finisher for Thomas Jefferson was Martin Rounds at 145. Rounds lost in the finals 7-5 to Stephon Smiley and narrowly missed collecting back points at the end of the match.

Two wrestlers claimed third place finishes for the Yellow Jackets. Patrick Billiam got third at 112 and Ben Riedenger got third at 160.

Riedenger's road to third was rather unusual. An error matched him against the wrong wrestler. He won the match but it did not count. He then wrestled the correct opponent 30 minutes later and won again. Wrestlers are required to rest 60 minutes between matches but Riedenger agreed to wrestle sooner to help speed up the tournament.

St. Albert's Patrick Fetter defeated top seeded Joe Lockett of Bellevue West in the finals 4-1 to claim first place.

Sean McNitt claimed a third place finish for the Falcons at 103.
