St. Albert advanced to this weekend's Centennial Conference volleyball action
The Saintes 26-24, 25-22 win moved them into Saturday's 10 a.m. game against No. 2 seed Grand Island, Neb., Central Catholic. This weekend's action will be at Boys Town, Neb.

Thursday the Saintes had to rebound from a 22-24 deficit in the night's first game to pull out the win.

"One of the team's goals tonight was to win in two games," St. Albert coach Angie Lantz said. "We didn't want to play them three."

The Saintes built a big lead in game two, before letting the Crusaders add some to their tally at the end.

"The second game was closer that is should have been," Lantz said. "We can play better than we played tonight."

Meghan Crowley paced the Saintes' defense with nine digs.

"She did well in the back row," Lantz said.

Ali Gorman led the St. Albert offense with six kills.

"She had a good night swinging away at the ball," Lantz said.

The victory moves the Saintes to 12-13 on the season.

"It's good to get the win, after playing how we did Tuesday (against Fremont Bergan)," Lantz said. "We definitely needed this one."

The Saintes will look to get back over .500 this weekend, starting with an opening match against GICC. St. Albert might also match up again against Bergan.

"I don't know anything about (GICC)," Lantz admitted. "I think we can definitely play a lot better than we have the last two matches and hopefully give them a run for their money."

The tournament's other opening-round match Thursday saw eighth-seeded David City Squinas defeat ninth-seeded Boys Town 25-2, 25-8.
