Weekly Bowling Recap

Posted: 11/24/2018 - by Spencer Sanchez

The St. Albert bowling team checked in their school shoes for rentals on Tuesday and kicked-off their 2018-19 regular season against Thomas Jefferson.

Having lost two of their best bowlers to graduation and with only three girls going out for the team, 15-year veteran coach Ken Mehsling knows it will take a few matches for this group to find their footwork. Facing the 2017-18 Class 2A state runner-up Yellow Jackets to start the season was always going to be a challenge and TJ's boys team fell only 11 pins short of 3000 to best the Falcons 2090.

Senior Cody Athay led St. Albert with a two-game series score of 317. Athay and James Ryan tied for high-game at 166.

In the girls lane, the short-handed Saintes were outscored 2462 to 999 with senior Peyton Carman's 134 high-game and two-game series 227 leading the way.

The team is several fungicidal, sanitizing deodorant sprays in bowling shoes away from the playoffs, where seven district champions and one wild card will advance to the eight-team state field. Only 12 individuals in the state of Iowa qualify for the state tournament at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
