Charlie's Prediction Time

Posted: 10/13/2017 - by Charlie Narmi

If it could have gone wrong last week - it did.  Not to take anything away from Southwest Valley, they outplayed and outcoached the Falcons and deserved to win the football game.  Time will tell if the Falcons can make amends and complete their pre-season goals.

Couple things from last week:

1. I'm of the belief that every year, and at any level, you have to have a 'power package' in for your team.  Run any system you want (and I love that our coaching staff changes systems year-to-year based on personnel) but there comes a time in every season when you need to line up and get yards the old fashioned way.  AND, it also means you practice defense against it as well.

2. Al Leber Field.  If money were to be raised we could do one of the proposals of the Spring Vision Committee: Flip the softball field so home base is below the water tower.  Have the outfield be field turf which would extend 150 or so yards all the way to the Elementary parking lot.  The softball outfield fence would be portable.  This means the kids could play on the field turf during recess and PE and various teams could practice on the turf in the evenings.  Oh, and name the field in honor of Kirk Campbell.

Until that gets done, is it time to look at playing games elsewhere? I really don't know for sure and am not convinced one way or the other.  But, I think it needs to be thought about.  Many Omaha and Sioux City schools already share fields - again, something to consider.

As for longer term this season with the Falcons: I don't think anyone has the breadth & depth of knowledge or passion of our coaching staff.  I have no doubt they'll correct issues from last week and put the Falcons in position for a deep post-season run.

Now it's time for the Falcons to get their confidence back and find out who wants to step-up and help lead this team into a deep playoff run...

Falcons win tonight 52-12
